Cast
Chelsea Bruland - Maggie
![]()
This is Chelsea’s premiere theatre performance in Melbourne, having worked with film since she was introduced to the screen as Samantha in the feature Selkie, later going on to play Fiona Finn in the television series Chuck Finn. Her most recent credit is the ongoing guest role of Jessica Carter in McLeod’s Daughters.
Tom Wren - Jack
![]()
Boys’ Life will be Tom’s last show before he begins at the VCA in February. Tom has performed widely at Melbourne University, playing Errol in Errol Flynn’s Great Big Adventure Book For Boys, Ben in Road Prayer, and Jim in Away. In Montreal he played Harry in Pinter’s The Collection, and in Dublin played Mr Chacterson in The Form.
Tom Stringer - Don/Man
![]()
Tom has been on stage for over ten years, seemingly without a break, shouldering mainly principal roles in Sweeney Todd, Sweet Road and The Incorruptible. An active member of Actors for Refugees, Tom is beginning to make an impact on the Melbourne scene; on stage in The War Against Short Trousers under the direction of Kaarin Fairfax, and on film in The House of Names alongside Kym Gyngell and Samuel Johnson.
Tom Gaffney - Phil
![]()
Tom Gaffney here. This is my second outing with Just Pretending after playing Tim in The Incorruptible. In Boys’ Life I play the character of Phil, the earnest but misguided dork. Hell, why do I feel like I have to sell myself in these biographies anyway? Apart from theatre stuff I also rock real, real hard in local ska band Mr Coffee. PS Hail Satan.
Susannah Chambers - Karen/Girl/Carla
![]()
A founding member of Nomad Theatre, Susannah once spent her summers touring the surf coast in shows such as Blackrock, CosÆ and It’s My Party (And I’ll Die If I Want To). Now, she has turned her attentions to Just Pretending, and before Boys’ Life she took on the role of Assistant Director for The Incorruptible, and played Carla in Sweet Road.
Ellen Heyward - Lisa
![]()
Ellen’s debut performance was as the novelty mandarin-speaking foreigner on the Chinese talk show Different is Good. Back on our shores, she hit the stage for Lorin Clarke’s People Watching at 45 Downstairs and, after apppearing in various short films, now continues theatrically as the formidable Lisa in Boys’ Life.
Cookie Baker - Guitar/Vocals
![]()
A regular and popular figure on the Adelaide live music scene, Cookie relocated to Melbourne in 2003 and brought along her brand of sweet, fresh coffeehouse folk/pop. While Boys’ Life is her theatrical debut, she has featured on television and radio and performed at music festivals including Off the Couch, Adelaide Fringe and Falls.
